Poseidon

epithet- word or phrase applied to a person or thing to describe an actual quality

eponym- a person (real or imaginary) something is named after

etiological tale- explains a natural phenomenon

myth- sacred story that explains natural phenomenon or instructs about some universal truth

pantheon- circular temple dedicated to the gods

King Triton from The Little Mermaid, a Disney cartoon, is a cartoon representation of the god, Poseidon.

This statue is a artistic representation of Poseidon.

The song 'I'm on a Boat' has a line that says "Poseidon look at me". This is music associated with the god Poseidon because he controls the sea, and boats sail in the sea (skip to 2:21).

The origin story of Poseidon begins with his parents. Cronos the Titan was his father, and he was afraid that his kids would become more powerful than him. Because of this fear, he constantly ate his children when they were born. This devastated Poseidon's mom, so she fed Cronos rocks that were disguised as children. The children that survived became very powerful and are some of the most important gods including Zeus and Hades.

Poseidon is the ruler of the sea. He can trouble water and cause earthquakes.

Poseidon is famous for his trident, and has become his recognizable symbol.

This next video is an adaptation of Poseidon. Poseidon is portrayed as Ariel's father and the king of the sea. Notice he is holding a trident, making it easy to recognize him. This adaptation changes the setting to a modern time, and the form to a movie.

  1. Amy and Madison. You did a very good job showing Poseidon in modern sources that are not titled "Poseidon". You were very thorough about Poseidon's background. Overall your report on Poseidon was very complete, detailed, and informative. Good job.

  3. Great work, you had a very informative post. I like your modern age adaptation to Poseidon, as well as the music video, which relates to him on the fact that it is in his area of rule, water. Your report was very explanatory about this major god.
