Setting Shakespeare

Adapt the scene we blocked in class today (where Lysander hits on Helena and then Demetrius steps in to hit on her too and then Hermia shows up, confused), by creating a new setting for the scene that would add to its humor.  For example, today I had the scene set in modern times in the Kinkaid library with teenagers as the lovers.  Where would you set Act 3, Scene 2?  Who would be the lovers? Why?

  1. Assuming they do not actually have to be lovers, I would set Act 3 Scene 2 in modern times in the living room of an aspiring musician (Helena). This musician has been searching and searching for a record deal, but he cannot find a producer willing to put any faith in him. He's desperate because if he does not land a record deal soon, he'll have to give up his dream of being a rock star. He is sitting in his living room strumming his guitar when the doorbell rings. A hotshot record producer, who supposedly gave his friend a deal, is standing there on the porch, waiting to be invited in. This producer is effectively Lysander. The producer offers him a deal, but he refuses to believe it, citing the fact that the company gave their last deal to his friend. Before the situation can escalate, there is another knock at the door. Much to the musician's disbelief, another producer is standing on the porch; this guy nearly gave him a deal a few months ago. This producer is Demetrius. The second producer, effectively Demetrius, interrupts the first producers' pitch and offers the musician a deal, and before long, the musician gets defensive and accuses them both of playing a joke on him. He cannot fathom (vocabulary word) going from unwanted to being recruited in the span of half an hour. The door remains open during this time, and in walks his friend to whom the first producer, effectively Lysander, supposedly gave a record deal. The friend is shocked and can't believe that the producer would turn on him. In conclusion, the musician is Helena, the first producer, the one who gave his friend a deal, is Lysander, the second producer, the one who almost gave him a deal a few months ago, is Demetrius, and his friend is Hermia. I don’t know any, but I imagine musicians to be passionate people, so I see real potential for humor here.

  2. I would set Act 3 Scene 2 at a season premiere. Hermia would be played by a popular young actress, Nina Dobrev, who is the star of the hit teenage drama. She is passionately in love with her co-star, Ian, who is the American "heartthrob", Lysander in the play. Her good friend, Kat Graham, is also starring in the show as well, but a lesser role. Kat, Helena in the book, has always lived in the shadows of Nina, but loves her dearly. Paul Wesley, the other supporting male character who is Demetrius in the book, has his eyes on Nina as well. At the movie premiere the feelings of both boys drastically change. They notice the beauty of the lesser innocent Kat, and turn their attention away from Nina. Kat is perplexed with the new obsession with her, and begins to think it is some sort of mockery. Ian and Paul insist they have changed their hearts and fallen for the girl in the shadows. Nina runs over to Ian waiting to enter the premiere with him when, she sees both boys who loved her attempting to pull a move on Kat. Her jealousy rages and rushes over questioning Ian. They both inform of their change in feelings leaving Nina confused and her night ruined. I decided on this setting, because I knew these characters from their T.V. show, and in real life Nina and Ian are dating. Seeing their drama is amusing to me, because I know them in the T.V. world.

  3. I would set Act 3 Scene 2 in a retirement home with a crew of rambunctious retirees. As one lonely retiree sat playing chess alone in the lobby another big shot retiree approaches her. The big shot retiree is an old man with a full head of grey hair and a faded marine tattoo on his arm. All the grandma's talk about how they wish their grandkids grew up to be like him. The old man then walks up to the lone retiree and begins to flirt with her, complimenting her hair, dentures, etc. The elderly lady is rather confused with the situation and believes the guy if tricking her. Not long after, another elderly guy enters the scene and also tells the elderly lady how he feels about her. The elderly lady had long wanted to have a more vibrant relationship with the guy; however, the two had never made it further than an exciting late night poker game. The old lady soon thinks the guys have tried to prank her, and all too soon comes in a more attractive female retiree. This female retiree has had one too many wild late night poker games with the big shot marine retiree, and soon realizes she has lost the old man to her uglier friend.

  4. Keeping the lovers theme, as director, I would place this scene on the set of a televised, national news program. The three anchors would be Roxanne (Helena), Chris (Lysander), and Grant (Demetrius). Roxanne, being the only woman in the threesome, had been scrutinized and treated with absolutely no respect. Although, she was a gorgeous lady, she was considered "good television" because of her desperation for male attention (if you know what I mean). The only reason Roxanne got the job was through her best friend Raquel (Hermia) who was the producer. Raquel never stood up to Chris or Grant, because she was engaged to Chris. Of course, her hubby to be could never do anything wrong. Roxanne had always resented Raquel for being engaged and always being the friend with a boyfriend. Secretly, Roxanne had an OBSESSION for Grant (she had already picked baby names).
On the Valentines Day episode, Chris snuck into Roxanne’s dressing room and kissed her out of the blue. She was caught completely by surprised and struggled to release herself from his grasp. He then professed his love for her and that he had wasted his time with Raquel. In the middle of his elope proposal, Grant slips into the dressing room. As they both intensely confess their love to her, Roxanne starts to scream and cry. She wails to them that they are anything but gentlemen to mock her this way and that she didn’t understand why they would team up against her. Just as Roxanne attempts to fix her eye make-up, Raquel barges in trying to get ready for filming. She received a big surprise when Chris dodges her kiss and continues to pursue Roxanne. (Come to find out, the intern (Puke) put agave beans in Chris’s and Grant's coffee trying to improve their hair texture, causing them to fall in love with their co-anchor. The power of the bean causes one to fall in love with the person you had seen last.)

  5. In the music school for teens, Hermia, Demetrius, and Lysander are the top three seniors. They are already signed on to record labels and their career paths are plated with gold. At the end of the school year, there is a song-writing contest for the drama club production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Lysander and Helena are partnered to write a song for the scene in which Lysander falls in love with Helena. They pull a late-nighter writing the song and end up falling asleep right before dawn. Then Puck, the mischievous member of the drama club, puts some of the prop love-in-idleness juice on Lysander's eyes, not knowing that it is actually some sort of hallucinatory chemical. When Helena wakes up the next morning, she panics, knowing that her family will be worried that she did not come home the previous night. She wakes Lysander up to ask him for a ride. When Lysander wakes up, he starts professing his love for her telling her that he would give everything up for her. Helena, who is disgusted by Lysander's idiocy, tries really hard to make him stop. When Demetrius shows up, he sees Lysander flirting with Helena. His desire to beat Lysander at everything makes him flirt with Helena as well. Though Demetrius and Helena have been classmates since the third grade and have always been just friends, Demetrius starts flirting with her just to upset Lysander. When Hermia walks into the room, she gets an angry earful from Helena for setting her up with Lysander. Helena and Hermia get into a singing battle (this is a music school, after all). After this, a Scooby-doo style chase ensues. Lysander starts to chase Helena, who runs away from him in disgust. Hermia chases Lysander trying her best not to cry. Demetrius, who is still in love with Hermia runs after her while trying to outdo Lysander at flirting with Helena. Helena slaps Lysander asking him to stop following her, and Hermia slaps Demetrius for paying attention to Helena. Each slap is accompanied by the corresponding male character whining "What did you do that for?"

  6. I would set the Act 3 Scene 2 at the 2013 Oscars. Jennifer Lawrence (Helena) would be minding her own business, walking up the red carpet, when Seth Macfarlane (Lysander) comes up to her. Seth who is currently dating Ann Hathaway (Hermia), begins to start small talk between the two. He switches between all of his different voice trying to woe her. Then, Seth pops the question, "Do you want to uh...go out on a date with me?" Jennifer is appalled by Seth's question, because she know that Seth is dating Ann. Jennifer is even more appalled because Ann is her best friend. So Jennifer slaps Seth straight across the face. At this point, all of paparazzi has turned their camera to Seth and Jennifer. Then suddenly, Bradley Cooper (Demetrius) comes into the scene, and says, "Jennifer Lawrence, I love you, do you want to go out with me?" Then Seth says, "Hey buddy, I just asked her that, she's mine." Bradley responds by saying, "You're already dating Ann so I get to have her." Right then and there, Seth punches Bradley Cooper in the jaw, and a fistfight was about to start until Ann enters the scene. She sees that Seth and Bradley were about to start fighting and asks them what happened. Bradley explains that Seth doesn't like her anymore and that Seth loves Jennifer now. Ann immediately breaks into tears, and runs of the red carpet. Then all the tabloids start to ask questions, and they immediately started rumors. That is how my Act 3 Scene 2 would go.

  7. I would set this scene at a basket ball game between the Miami Heat and the Oklahoma city Thunder. Helena would be played by a groupie that has been following Kevin Durant. Laseartes would be played by Dwayne Wayde himself. Demetrius would be played by Kevin Durant. Hermia would then be played by Gabrielle Union. Durant is constantly being followed by a groupie who really wants to get with him but he really wants Gabrielle Union. Meanwhile Wayde is with Gabrielle. Now we switch to this scene where Durant goes to the groupie and confesses his mad love for her. Although the groupie knows he is not serious she accepts his offer with some caution but she throws it all away when Wayde comes and now confesses his love for her which she obviously knows is not true because Wayde and Union are madly in love, everyone knows that. The groupie starts to take off her wig and madly go off on the two ballers. Now enters Gabrielle who goes to Wayde and now is when he tells her that he no longer loves her that she was now being traded for a groupie. So now Gabrielle starts to unclip her weave and take it out and go at this groupie and the groupie is like are you in on the joke and Gabby is pissed and then the screen would go black there.

  8. I would set this scene on an airplane. The lovers would be the two copilots and two of the flight attendants. Not only would we have the typical love quadrangle problem, we would also have the needs of the plane interrupting. For example, the 'Demetrius' copilot might call the 'Lysander' copilot away from his wooing of 'Helena' to come to the cockpit, and once his rival arrived, he would jump up, making 'Lysander' take the wheel. The same tactic could be used again, calling each other on the intercom to make sure that the plane knew so that the other copilot would have to come. Thus, we would not only be having the love quadrangle, but also a war over the intercom, completely confusing the passengers. 'Helena' or 'Hermia' might also be pulled away from their cat fight to attend to a needy passenger, who would then get the full wrath of a pissed of flight attendant.

  9. This is my amazing adaptation to Act 3 Scene 2. Quatro Quatro (Helena) is considered by many to be the best flaming chainsaw juggler in the nation. Quatro, had decided that he would participate in the doubles event of flaming chainsaw juggling for the Juggling World Championships, however he could never find a partner to do it with, while his best friend Hingle McCringleberry (Hermia) who did non-flaming chainsaw juggling, always had a partner, Leoz Maxwell Jilliumz (Lysander), but Xmus JaxonFlaxon-Waxon (Demetrius) always wanted to be Hingle's partner. One day, Leoz approaches Quatro, and says that he has changed his mind, and that he wanted to ditch Hingle and do the flaming chainsaw juggle with Quatro instead of the non-flaming chainsaw juggle. Quatro is dumbfounded and thinks that Leoz is joking with him. At this time, Xmus enters the room and confesses the same thing to Quatro. Again, Quatro thinks he is the center of some big joke and gets mad at both of them. Finally, Hingle enters confused that the two people who always wanted to be his juggling partner are now leaving him for another juggling event with another person.

  10. If I was the director of the play, I would set Act. 3, Scene 2 in a modern survivor-man setting. First I would have to cast the roles very carefully not to make either woman or man greater or better in any sense over the other. Lysander and Demetrius would share similar characteristics along with Hermia and Helena, however, I perhaps would make Helena slightly more confused at the situation than Hermia. In the overall play, the travelers would have been stranded on a remote island. This scenery in itself would be quite comical since the travelers would either be in constant fights or trying to find a way off the island with their true love. On the hand, I would remove Robin and Oberon from the play and instead use the two males as the culprits of the magic nectar. Lysander, knowing that Demetrius adores his love Hermia, would have found the flower and placed some on his rival's eyes so he would fall in love with Helena. Meanwhile, Demetrius also has the same thought in mind. He ventures through the island and places the nectar on Lysander's eyes hoping that he sees Helena first which would allow Demetrius to finally have his true love. The plan of course ends up backfiring and both males see Helena upon awakening. These next scenes would be an all-out brawl between the males over who will have the "beautiful" Helena. At the same time, Hermia will have realized that something very strange is occurring. Attempting to fix the problem, she blames Helena for somehow tricking or poisoning the men into falling in love with her instead of Hermia. After the fights have begun, both genders will battle to the "death" over their true loves. I believe this scenery would both increase the dramatic and comical side to the story since, similar to the fairy forest, the travelers would be stranded with each other until the problem is solved and the real couples emerged.

  11. To set up this scene, Lysander would be played by the charming and confident George Clooney trying to seduce Helena. But Helena would be played by Anne Hathaway with her pale white skin which, to some, is a sterotype of not the most attractive trait. Mr. Clooney would be swaggering into the waiting room of a psychiatrist's office. Then would appear the calmer but still intimidating Johhny Depp. He is the now obsessed, Demetrius. George Cloony would walk up to Miss Hathaway and attempt to lock eyes with her but all the while, she dismisses all his attempts to seduce her mentally. Then rolls up Mr. Depp. His brown eyes beaming down the seductive Clooney willing to end his very existence in the waiting room. Anne Hathaway tries to ignore "Lysander's" persuasive tactics at the same time that Depp approaches Clooney with the intention of knocking him off his personal pedestal. Then, walks in the once lover of both Demetrius and Lysander, Hermia, also known as Selma Hayek. She expects her man Lysander to be all over her and her tan, dark skin. (LOL) But this isn't so due to the course of action that has happened with Cupid's love potion. The characters were chosen based on their previous roles and what I personally believe are their actual personalities. Clooney for his smile, charm, and cockiness. Depp because of his slight, serious, and yet, calming facial expressions. Hathaway... Well that chick just seems like she doesn't have a lot of confidence in herself. Plain and simple. Selma Hayek because she is the classic-sexy actress that is, to most of the male populace, irresistible.

  12. My adaptation of Act 3 Scene 2 would be on the lacrosse field. Dean (Lysander) always wants to pass the ball to Jack (Hermia), who then scores. However, Sterling (Demetrius) also wants to get an assist with Jack. Jack however likes Dean, because he throws the ball more accurately. Buck (Helena) always is on the side of the crease wanting Sterling to pass to him so he can score. Sadly, although he is a good shot by normal standards, he cannot compare to Jack in the eyes of Dean and Sterling. Then one day after Buck makes some good shots in practice Dean asks Buck if he wants to make a play. Buck however is in disbelief because Dean and Jack already have a highly successful play. Sterling interrupts and says he wants to make up a play with Buck too! Now Buck is thoroughly convinced that they are making fun of his shooting skills. Then Jack enters the conversation to ask Dean why they stopped running their play. Dean tells Jack that he is just missing too many shots and that he, Dean, cannot be associated with a loser anymore. Jack then realizes that Sterling doesn't want to pass with him either. Jack is heartbroken.

    1. I think that this adaptation is easy to understand and makes sense with the real story. Also there could be comical mishaps in the game because of this.

  13. If I had to change the scene I would make it a party. A girl named roxy (hermia), her best friend laura (helena), roxy's boyfriend (jim), and Laura's crush (jerry) one night decide to runaway to this exclusive party. At the party Roxy and Jim enjoy dancing and talking, but as for Laura, she is desperately trying to catch Jerry's attention. She begs for him to slow dance with her, but he rudely rejects hers after her multiple attempts. Eventually Jerry and Jim get thirsty and grab a drink of water, suddenly having different view of Roxy. They return to the dance floors, but their eyes no longer gaze at Roxy, but at Laura. After Laura had been rejected from Jerry she believes it is a joke and she knows that Jim is in love with Roxy. Laura feels like she is being mocked by Jerry and Jim, but what makes the situation even worse is when Roxy walks up to Jim, and he wanders away from her towards Laura. She now thinks that Roxy is a part of this. As Roxy listens to Jim's confession of love to Laura, she is suddenly feeling betrayed by them and is confused. Roxy wants to leave the party, thinking that it was a waste of time and effort to go. The hostess of the party, Mike, watches from afar and realizes that the drinks placed out had been messed with and that he needed to fix it, with the help of his best friend Billy, who is handing out the drinks to the guest.

  14. If I was directing this play, I would set Act 3 Scene 2 in modern time in a school gym during prom with seniors as the lovers. Lysander and Hermia would enter the dance together, and a little later, Hermia would then leave to go to the bathroom. Meanwhile, a lonely Helena would be eating away her feelings at the desert table with chocolate smeared across her lips. Lysander would approach her and tell her that he loves her. Just as Helena is about to respond, Demetrius would saunter in, causing Helena to quickly wipe off the remaining chocolate off her face, and reveal his feelings towards her. Helena wouldn't understand the honesty of the two men. She would think they were making fun of her for not having a date and start yelling at them. Hermia would get back from the bathroom and listen to the conversation until she figured out about her lover's disloyalty. Helena would erupt with rage and start a food fight with the three. As a slow song would start to play, both men would ask Helena to dance, and Hermia would leave the prom dateless. The chaos the four characters cause would be quite humorous to the other seniors watching the dramatic showdown.

  15. The setting of the scene would take place in an 80's style diner. The roles would be played by: Meghan Ory as Hermia because she can act well as a beautiful, yet enraged woman, which comes into effect when Helena and Hermia hurl insults at each other. Emilie de Ravin would play Helena well because Emilie is great when doing crying-because-of-confusion scenes. Julian Morris would star as Lysander because he is charming and loving. Lastly Colin O'Donoghue would star as Demetrius, constantly chasing after Hermia, trying to get her to like him. If these were to be the actors and actresses of A Midsummer's Night Dream, I would make the subtext for the role of Demetrius seductive, Lysander loving and charming, Helena weeping and confused, and Helena fighting for what's hers, yet with a sense of charming.

  16. To add a twist to Shaksperes "Midsummer Night Dreams" Act 3, Scene 2 I would replace Helena with a failed athelete that just wants to participate in his High Schools sport program which would gain him self-pride and confidence. His Demetrius would be Football. He has dedicated countless hours into trying to make the school team but cant build up the skill to do so. All of a sudden he finds out that he is one of the best cross-country runners(Lysander) in the school and at the same time he finds out that he's made the JV Football team. Instead of trying to figure out which sport he should play he thinks that everyone is just trying to make him feel better which gets him even more mad. And when his best friend (Hermia) finds out that he may lose his Varsity spot on Cross-Country he decides to confront him about it. I think this would make a nice version of the story with a sub-text that could be very mellow and serious or funny and nerdy.

  17. I would set Act 3, Scene 2 in an elevator which ascends up a tall building. Lysander would initially profess his newfound love for Helena in the lobby. As they entered the elevator, Lysander would continue to try to persuade Helena that his love is real. Helena would still be in disbelief. Eventually, as the elevator continued to ascend, Lysander would claim that Demetrius would never love her. At that moment, the elevator would stop, and Demetrius would enter, professing his love to Helena as well. The two men would then get into a fight about Helena. Finally, Hermia would enter the elevator, and Lysander would have to tell her that he loves Helena. Both women would be completely confused. The men would then continue to ignore Hermia, the woman they both once loved, and continue to court Helena. I think this situation would increase the comedy of the play. Since all of the interactions would take place inside an ascending elevator, the actors would be in a small space and unable to leave during an awkward moment.

  18. If I were to set the scene, I would set it up in front of the movie theater. The four friends were supposed to meet at a couple minutes before the movie. Helena would be a little early so makes a stop at the coffee shop across from the movies. Lysander would be creeping on her meaning he knows that she is alone and thought it would be the best time to break the news to her. As Helena is coming out of the store, he proposes his love for her, she laughed. Before she could answer, Demetrius interrupts Helena and confesses his love for her. Helena would try to break up the fight because she thought they were making fun of her, as the men would continue to quarrel, Helena would be so shocked that she is absolutely speechless. She cannot tell whether they were toying with her emotions or not. As Helena is pondering this situation and occasionally flirting with the two men, Hermia would run in late and is completely out of breath. Hermia would go directly to Lysander, who would completely ignore her and push her away, hurt, she would break down crying. To make things worse for Hermia, I would have it rain. While the men are fighting Hermia would accuse Helena for stealing her boyfriend and then tip over her coffee all over her and would walk away. As the whole scene is playing out they would I would set it in front of a movie theater because it's like a 3D movie, live! The girl lovers would be Zooey Deschanel as Hermia and Gemma Arterton as Helena. The guy lovers would be Jake Gyllenhaal as Lysander and Josh Duhamel. I would choose this people because I feel as though these people would make the scene more appealing and interesting, and some of which are my personal favorites. Basically, I would set the scene in front of the theater because it has a little bit of irony and makes things more appealing to the audience through the play out and subtexts.

  19. I would set this scene at cotillion. Hermia would be played by Mila Kunis, because she is beautiful and is always played as the girl all the guys like. For Helena, I would use someone who is equally pretty in a unique way that isn't your typical American beauty, like Emma Stone. I would play Ryan Gosling and for Demetrius I would cast Zac Efron. In the middle of dancing to a song, Lysander would leave Hermia to go speak with Helena, only to find Demetrius confessing his love to her. Hermia would chase after Lysander, and finds him professing his love to Helena. Because neither of the guys have ever liked her, Helena would think there's a conspiracy and get in a fight with Hermia.

  20. I would set the scene in a retirement home with a couple who has been married for sixty years, Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep (Hermia and Lysander) a man whose wife passed away, Jack Nicholson (Demetrius), and a single, never married, senior Judi Dench (Helena). The situation would be held at the Tuesday night Bingo game and Tommy Lee won the first game while Meryl had taken her bathroom break. He would strut back down to his chair holding up his prize to the secret crush, Judi. He claims he's the best bingo player in all of the retirement home. Judi who is impressed, says "Great job." Tommy Lee excited for the praise, responds by asking her to swing by his room later and kiss the "trophy". Horrified, Judi in her mind thinks this can't be happening, the first tim a man hits on me! Excited but not acting too eager she says you have a wife! Just at that moment Jack walks in seeing Tommy Lee next to Judi. Worried about the competition in the home, Jack says "what are you doing with her, you have a wife!" Tommy Lee says "Yeah, so what?" The two go on and on about Judi and eventually gets so bad that the two have to be wheeled off of each other. After all this bickering Meryl comes back from the bathroom confused as to why her husband has been so inconsiderate of their sixty year old marriage. I picked these actors because they are all on the older side and thought they would fit in the scene that I needed.

  21. I would set act 3, scene 2 at a very busy hospital. The hospital is filled with very injured patients that are all close to death, but can easily be saved with some attention from a doctor. Helena should be played by a very quiet nurse who is in love with the a male nurse who is the assistant to the main doctor (Demetrius). The male nurse and the main male doctor (Lysander) are both now randomly in love with the shy nurse. They would be arguing for her while the main male doctor's long time girlfriend comes in who is the main female doctor. The male doctor will not be on call for lunch and finds himself alone with the female nurse and try's to explain himself but is interrupted by the male nurse who wants her too. The comical part will be that the female doctor finds herself in this whole predicament while running to patients and back with more blood and medical supplies at hand each trip. She needs to save the lives of the patients but also tries to save her love.

  22. I would place the scene at a wedding. The groom would be Lysander, the bride would be Hermia, the random citizen would be Demetrius, and the maid of honor would be Helena. Right before the music starts to play, signaling Hermia to walk down the aisle, Lysander tells the piano player to stop and asks Helena to talk to him in the room next door. Helena follows. Lysander is pacing back and forth. At this point, Helena is concerned for her friend. Lysander then shouts, "I don't love Hermia, I love you." Helena doesn't know what to do with herself. Then Demetrius barges in and yells, "Helena, I couldn't keep it in any longer. I love you! I want to spend the rest of my life with you." Helena is starstruck but, at the same time, feels mad at them for stopping her best friend's wedding. All of the sudden, Hermia stomps in and screams at Lysander for everything he has done. In the end, they are all in one room screaming at each other. The End (of that scene).

  23. Too add some humor I would want this too happen at a high school football game. Lysander would be the senior quarterback and Demetrius would be a star wide receiver. The gorgeous Hermia would be the main flyer for the cheer squad (her and Lysander were the power couple of the school) and Helena would be the all-state tuba player. After Lysander throws an amazing touchdown pass to Demetrius he points too the crowd and sees Helena rocking out on her tuba. He runs to the stand and tells her that he is in mad love with her. Helena is too busy cheering to see her man run up but Demetrius is not. He sees Lysander and realizes he too is in mad love with Helena, so he runs up to her too and tells Lysander he had his shot! Helena who has been in mad love with Demetrius thinks they are kidding and is about to smack them both with her tuba until Hermia runs up and tells Lysander to get back to the field. Lysander awkwardly tells her that they are over. Hermia doesn't take this lightly and blames Helena for this. So all four of them our in the bleachers while everyone at the game is just waiting for them to finish.

  24. I would set this scene in a grocery store. Katherine Heigl (Helena), would be minding her own business, and buying some soup, when Patrick Dempsey (Lysander) comes in, and professes his love for her. Helena would be angry, so she would throw cans of soup at him. Then, Justin Chambers (Demetrius), would come in, and Demetrius and Lysander would get in a major food fight. Finally, Ellen Pompeo (Hermia) would come in, obviously heartbroken, and then Helena and Hermia would run up and down the aisles of of the grocery, screaming at each other. I think that this would add humor, because the characters would cause such a scene in such a public place.

  25. I would set Act 3 Scene 2 in a high school setting.. Ms. Offenhauser's class. A boy, Colin, and 3 other people all work tirelessly on geometry. Colin (Helena) has an extremely hard time in Geometry class, and knows he is most likely not going to get his goal of a B-. Struggling on some problems, Ms. Offenhauser (lysander) and the chairman for the board of mathematics at MIT (Demirius), run through the door and bombard Colin with a series of questions. Most of them pertain to his knack for geometry or the consideration of skipping all courses up to multivariable calculus. "Colin, how about a full scholarship to MIT?!" Colin is confused, and slightly angry, and replies with dull remarks of "I made a 52 on the last test!" Just then, that one smart kid who should be in college but is a freshman walks up and starts asking about his full scholarship. The chairman replies with statements of "Old news kid" or "You're washed up now." Colin then wakes up and realizes that none of that happened except that he actually made a 52 on the last test. *Cut Scene*
